The DAR Council Bluffs Chapter is sewing and sending pillowcases to our deployed military troops. Our goal is for these brave soldiers  to receive some appreciation from home, thanking them for the sacrifices they are making for our country.  We will send other items from their "wish list" too.

HOW TO Get Involved

information for sewing groups or individuals

Who Can Participate & Fabric and Patterns

Who can participate:

Anyone!    We welcome you!

If you are a part of a sewing group -- or would like to form one, we would appreciate your help. We welcome participation from  4H groups, Scout troops, Church groups, and more  . Individual contributors are welcomed as well.

As contributions come in, we'll add photos to our Facebook page (unless you request anonymity) so others can see how we're progressing.

We encourage you to attach a note to your donation pillowcases,

with your email address,  so the troops can thank you!

Fabric Requirements

Bright, cheerful fabrics are appreciated.

New 100% Cotton, Cotton Blends or Flannel is preferred

Patterns can be one piece, 2 piece, or 3 piece (Burrito style with flange)

French seams or serged seams, please

(If you need a pattern, just send us an email, and we'll get one to you!)

Pillowcases can be mailed to us, or delivered locally in southwest Iowa.

Just email us for locations to drop off your pillowcases.

This Season's Recipients --

Troops in the Desert of Niger

A unit stationed in the desert of Niger have been selected to be the recipients of our next shipment of pillowcases. These brave soldiers are spending a year away from home, and they deserve a few comforts as a small token of our thanks for the sacrifices they are making for us and their country.

As you complete your pillowcases, you might consider attaching a short note, with your email address, so they can get a chance to thank you!

Other items from their "wish list" that we hope to be sending to them include:

Body wash/luffas; Sunglasses w/black frames (dust storms wreak havoc on sunglasses); Protein bars/powder; snacks (crackers and jerky); powdered drink mixes; Flip flops/shower shoes; Sunscreen; Sunflower seeds; Lotion/moisturizer.

Nominate a Group

If you have a military unit you'd like to nominate to be our next recipients from our DAR Pillowcase Project, send us an email!

Contact us for more information

All sewing groups and individuals are welcome to help. Every season, we will select a deployed group to be the recipients of some awesome pillowcases -- a little bit of home! We will package the pillowcases and send them to the troops. This season, we will be sending pillowcases to Air Force and Army Rangers who are deployed in the Sahara Desert for a year.
